How Can We Help So after all is said and done, what can we do to help? There are many resources available to learn more about drug abuse and addiction and what can help prevent it from happening. Along with prevention programs there is always the help and guidance from family and peers that could ultimately help even more. Sometimes prevention programs fail, treatment centers fail, and all that is left is the support your family and friends can give you during recovery. Even while in a treatment facility family and friend support is always needed and encouraged by the facility staff. Drug abusers not only effect and change their own lives, but all those in their environment. Quite often family members do not realize how deeply the person has been affected by chemical dependency, so therefore family involvement is an important component of recovery. Treatment centers do vary in the amount and quality of family involvement. If this is an important factor to the decision of a facility for you or another family member, ask if there is any time devoted to family programs before admitting a patient into the center. Some centers even offer family/group therapy. As concerned citizens, we should all feel an obligation to contribute to the betterment of society. As a business associate or owner, ignoring the ongoing problem is also a poor business decision. Every recovering addict needs the love, support and advice from family during the difficult time they are facing. Copyright
