Addiction

There are a couple main reasons why drug users become addicts. One reason being mental and physical cravings caused by drug residues remain in the body long after a person quits using the drug. A second reason is the "Biochemical Personality" or rather the "way of thinking" that is caused by drug addiction and the lifestyle an addict adopts to get drugs and live with a drug habit. The discovery that addiction has biochemical links has helped tremendously in rehabilitation.

When your body is exposed to drugs for a long period of time it is unable to eliminate all traces of it in your system. Therefore, the remaining traces of drugs in your system are stored in the fatty tissues in the body, otherwise known as “drug metabolites”. These metabolites re-enter the body’s system stirring up cravings again for the drug. Leaving these traces in your body, unhandled or dealt with, could cause the triggering of crave for the drug long after being sobered up. Ways to eliminate the traces (used by The Narconon Rehabilitation Program) are by a combination of exercises, induced sweating in a sauna and nutritional supplements to eliminate the traces of drugs, or metabolites, stored in the fatty tissue.
